Nineteen of the Russian's 21 victories have been earned on hard courts

A resurgent Daniil Medvedev won his initial title for over two years with success over Corentin Moutet in the competition final.

The athlete, a former number one, has endured a torrid year, achieving just one win at the major tournaments and suffering a difficult moment at the American major.

The player's varied form on the ATP Tour - and difficulties with his serving in particular - resulted in him exiting of the world's top 10 and ultimately separating with long-time mentor Gilles Cervara.

Currently collaborating with Thomas Johansson and Rohan Goetzke, Medvedev has steadily progressed in the past month - culminating in a hard-fought 7-5 4-6 6-3 victory over opponent Moutet.

It is Medvedev's first championship after the Italian tournament and maiden on a hard court from spring of 2023.

Success also signifies Medvedev has secured twenty-one championships at 21 distinct tournaments.

"This marks the first occasion I'm at a event with my children simultaneously, so to secure a championship is particularly special," said world number 14 Daniil Medvedev.

"This championship is in honour of my child her name, because the initial championship I won when my first daughter Alisa was born was for her."

The tennis star, the past champion, had lost his last six finals, comprising in Halle in the past months.

Medvedev's defensive strategy and frequent emotional displays on court had caused commentators to wonder if his skill to compete at the elite level was finished.

Yet the 29-year-old has altered his approach in the past month, attempting to approach the net and compete aggressively, supported by an enhanced serve.

Medvedev recovered from a deficit in the initial set against the tricky opponent, taking four of the last five games to go ahead.

The pair swapped service breaks in the middle set before the challenger, bidding for his initial professional title, took control to push for a decider.

Moutet defended 4 early chances in a tight deciding set before Medvedev secured a break to that score to serve for the match.

Appropriately, Medvedev earned the title with a rally at the front of the court, with Moutet unable to manage a return after two hours and 38 minutes.
